Panthers fall to Milaca in five

As they have done for over two decades, the Onamia Panthers volleyball team opened its season against the non-conference Milaca Wolves. “The drive is short, and the match-up has also been fairly competitive," said Onamia coach Linda Caron.

Sailboat overturns, crew rescued

Four sailors were rescued on Mille Lacs Lake Aug. 29, after their boat overturned.
Mille Lacs County Sheriff Brent C. Lindgren reported that the county’s 911 center received a call around 1:14 p.m. from a citizen who was near Twilight Road north of Onamia near Mille Lacs Conoco.

Two arrested after assault

Two men were arrested Aug. 25 after a 20-year-old woman told officers at the Mille Lacs Health System Hospital that she had been assaulted.
Darrick Dewayne Williams, 19, who has a Hinckley address, was taken into custody and charged with assault.

He who cuts his own wood

When I was growing up, there was a plaque embedded in the wall of our farmhouse that read, “He who cuts his own wood is twice warmed.” I saw it every day of my life. My dad had to explain it to me when we first moved in. “When you cut your own wood, you get warm cutting it and you get warm burning it,” he said.
